Bird’s Basement Melbourne extends a most distinguished invitation to join Melbourne’s B# Big Band on July 19th for an evening of refined musicality — one that honours the sophistication of the swing era and ventures, with suitable taste, into the more spirited realms of soul and funk. It is, quite frankly, the sort of musical evening that one rarely encounters in today’s rather distracted cultural landscape.

This particular engagement features two pillars of Australian popular music.

Dale Ryder, best known as the dynamic frontman of Boom Crash Opera, brings with him a voice that has resonated across stadiums and airwaves for decades.

Nikki Nicholls, a vocalist of enviable pedigree — original backing singer for John Farnham, contributor to the legendary Whispering Jack album, and touring collaborator with the likes of Australian Crawl, Suzi Quatro, Richard Clapton, Lulu, and none other than Kylie Minogue — graces the stage with poise, power, and impeccable credentials.

Together with the commanding presence of the 10-piece B# Big Band, this concert offers not just entertainment, but an education — a reminder that music, when properly arranged and performed, can move both the heart and the intellect. One might call it an essential outing for anyone who claims to appreciate the finer things.

Tony Bennett was one the last-surviving music icons of the golden generation of jazz crooners since the 1930s, while Lady Gaga is one of the biggest names in pop from 2009 onwards.Despite the complete difference of their eras, fans and genres, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga struck up an unexpected friendship and partnership.

In an equally unexpected yet fateful pairing Sarah & Dom both met through a chance meeting at an event in 2021 where Sarah was performing. In finding out about Dom’s vocal prowess she quickly had him up on the stage singing an impromptu duet. From that moment they struck up a friendship and mutual admiration which organically led to creating a concept in which they could share their love of big band classics and performing together, and so TONY & GAGA: An Opulent Big Band Experience was born.

Led by acclaimed powerhouse vocalist Sarah C and fashion icon Dom Bagnato.

Gary Rizzolo and the Hummingbirds will be performing as featured artists at the Hume Blues Club Thursday 10 April, 9.30pm.

It's also happens to be Gary's birthday, so come on down and help Gary celebrate by joining in the open jam at 7.30pm, then stay as Gary Rizzolo and his Hummingbirds perform some of their favourite blues and R&B numbers.
